wine label

I wanted to use a very simple design including a piece of my mural. so i chose a character from my mural for each bottle. i also added the text in the 'japan' typeface i used on my menu.

Direct mail

My idea for direct mail was to put a postcard in a welcome pack at each hotel in vegas. so when somebody checks in to their room they are given this postcard to send home to their family or friends. So they don't have to buy any theirselves. this will save them a bit of money and is a nice free gift, there will also be a voucher attached to the bottom for them to take with them in to yo sushi.

menu (inside)

This is the inside of my menu, i wanted to make it clean and simple just including type and no images. i kept the same colour scheme as the menu and the same outline with elvis's silhouette.

menu (cover)

I had the original idea to use my elvis illustration n my menu, i had the idea of elvis sticking out of the top of the page. At first i was only going to have him on the front cover but thought it would look better to have him on the front and back so he can be seen from both sides when the menu is closed. I have used a simple helvetica neue typeface for the main text on the menu with 2 other fonts combined to make the title. i have also chosen to include the 'how it works' section from their original menu with my own type.

mural

I have made some more adjustments to my final mural. I have added Fireworks in the background to the skyline. I am happy with the final mural and because of the range of images i have used there are a few options i can use to take parts of my mural and apply them to my menu and wine labels.

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds

vegas!

okay so ive not put anything on here for a while but ive changed a lot of things since my last post, i was looking a lot in to different illustration styles and the style i have chosen didnt really work well for london so i decided to change the city i was designing for because there a lot more relevant images that i could use. I have chosen las vegas because it is very colourful and aswell as the sights there are plenty of iconic people i could include such as the rat pack and elvis. I have been experimenting with illustrations these past few weeks and i am finally starting to get some illustrations up on screen in photoshop, so now i am planning on continuing with my sketches and then going to start playing around with their positioning on screen.

branding report and mural style

When we were given the brief for this project i didn’t really know a lot about yo! sushi, so the first thing i did was to research into the company and found out some interesting things about their brand and the way their restaurants work. The idea of yo sushi is very clever because it uses the idea of fast simple food but with out the unhealthy reputation of most other fast food chains. They also have a very unique layout inside the restaurant using a conveyor belt and different coloured plates to distribute the food. Something like this is unusual so will attract people straight away.

My job is to design a wall mural to make the restaurant i choose unique and to associate it with the city which it is located in. I decided to choose London as the city for the restaurant to be located. The main reason i chose London was because i knew a lot about the landmarks and a lot of the famous people associated with London that i could incorporate in to my design. However the target audience of a Yo! sushi restaurant is 18 - 25 year olds, so i need to make sure that my design is appropriate and appeals to them. So aswell as just using Londons traditional landmarks such as big ben, the tower bridge and buckingham palace i intend to try and include more current icons of London.
Now i have decided on a city and had a rough idea about some of the content of my mural the next major thing i needed to decide was my illustration style and how i was going to create my mural. During my research i was looking at lots of different examples of murals and other types of illustrations and various illustrators websites. I finally came across something that inspired me. It was a piece of illustration by Silke Werzinger that is in a similar style to a mural. It uses hand drawn illustrations that have been scanned into the computer and edited and arranged with type to create a very interesting image.

I am planning to recreate this style to create my own mural but to use my own iconic images of london. Hand drawing or tracing the pictures i need then arranging my illustrations together on the mac to create my mural. I think this will be a challenge as i haven’t done any illustrations before but it is something that i would like to improve my skills in and i think this would be a good opportunity. My own mural will include illustrations of things such as the london eye, red phone box, margaret thatcher, some iconic london bands / musicians and any other London icons i think will be appropriate within my design. i will also try to show some of Londons subclutures such as punk within my mural which has been done a little on the illustration by Silke Werzinger.
